EP14 - Get Your First Impression Right! Step-by-Step Guide for Designing the Most Memorable 1st-Lesson with a New Class As a Teacher
Teachers, do you want to build an engaging learning atmosphere in your classroom? Is it your dream to host memorable lessons at school?
We all understand the importance of "First Impression" and this also applies in the eyes of our students we teach. When teaching a new class (e.g. summer programs, new school year, extracurricular activities, new job at a new school, etc.), how should we plan our first lesson?
In this episode, I'll share with you my favourite design of my first lesson (full of fun-filled and heart-warming memories). I will even guide you step-by-step in crafting your own signature first lessons to leave a lasting impression to your students and pave the way for effective teaching and deep impact for the year ahead.
- Self-review: What do I feel safe to do or share? Or do I dare to feel vulnerable?
- Choose a flow according to chosen degree to freedom: From scripted sharing to open-floor Q&A
Tips
-Share your intention-- (1) relational; (2) academic
-Set boundaries (e.g. you'll try your best to answer but also reserve the right to not speaking about a topic, either it's sensitive or because you haven't thought it through)
-Feel free to ask follow-up questions before answering "weird" questions
-Prepare material if needed (nothing, PPT slide, object for show & tell, memo)
